Shareport Causing Restart?
« on: September 11, 2010, 02:46:48 PM »

i have had my dir-855 for about 6 months now and it has been working faultlessly the entire time apart from the past week or 2.
it seems to be when ever i use my external hard drive on the shareport my router reboots its self and the log file clears its self so i cant see whats causing the problem.
im not sure what the problem is exactly. im on 1.12EU and my hardware is A2.
i dont want to update the firmware and cause more problems that i had to start with.
i cant seem to find anyone else with this problem. my computer (shareport utility) picks up the hard drive every single time i turn it on without problem and the majority of the time it works fine.
the dir855 never seemed to be able to keep date and time but i got round this my using NTP.
why does the log clear its self after it does this reboot?
if i do a soft reboot (after ive changed some settings for example) the log file does not clear its self.
i have not checked to see if the log clears if the router looses mains power.
i have the 5ghz turned off at the moment as no one is using it at present. 2.4ghz turned on and no problems with that apart from the usual not very strong signal for such an expencive bit of kit with 3 antenna.

i can post some logs up but they wont be of must use as the log clears its self when the reboot happens.
when it reboots the screen lights up and displays "D-Link" all computers pop up with "limited of no connectivity" and after about 30 seconds all is fine. i have to turn off andback on the external hard drive for shareport to notice it again.

any help or advice much appriciated.

It sounds like a power problem. As in the drive requires too much and it's tripping a safety feature. Loss of power could result in a voided log as well. Not really sure. Try plugging a powered USB hub into the router, and plug your hdd into that. If it doesn't happen anymore, than it was becuase the drive needed too much juice or something like that.
