Signal Strength Drops
« on: May 24, 2010, 12:23:49 PM »

So I've had this router for about a year, running 1.33 NA, rarely does the router disconnect me. Well I have my ps3 upstairs and with my linksys wrt300n router it would get on average 65% signal strength. Bought the 655 and I get around 75-80% on average.

Well about a 2 weeks ago I decided to stand the router up and keep the antennas the same(they're all pointing left, horizontal with the ground) and my ps3 signal jumped up to 95-100%. It stayed this way for an entire week. Then for some reason the reception is back down to 75%.

I changed no settings, have always kept it on channel 6, but I can't get the reception any higher. Nothing has moved around the house to cause any interference. I've tried all the channels individually and 6 is still my best channel. I've rebooted the modem and router, changed security from wpa to wpa 2, nothing boost my reception.

What could be the problem?

Hi,

I would suspect some environmental issue like a nearby neighbor's wireless interrupting your signals.  Can you recall of any electronic wireless devie that was shutdown for that week like a cordless telephone ?

I have a similar problem, it's not with signal strength but throughput. It's taken a dive for no reason, haven't changed a thing.

My Xbox 360 was pulling 240-260 Mbps and now I can't get it above 108.

I wish I could figure this out.

the house is just cell phones, nothing 2.4ghz. No new electronics, nothing. But my signal has been 80-85% for this week, so hopefully my problem is gone.
