Shareport with 64-bit Vista
« on: September 12, 2010, 12:56:42 AM »

- Router: D-Link DIR-635, Hardware Version B3, Firmware Version 2.32EA (latest version according to the version check in the router interface)
- Shareport version: 1.17 (Latest version according to the version check in "Advanced Options")
- System: Vista 64-bit
- Problem: Router not listed in right-click menu

I'm trying to use Shareport with a multifunction printer on a Vista 64-bit system, and it doesn't detect my router. I'm using Shareport 1.17, which my Shareport version check says is the latest version. The list of supported systems in my Shareport manual does not include Vista 64-bit, but in Internet searches I've seen hints that it can work. When I try to follow the links, the trail keeps evaporating.

I'm using Shareport on an XP 32-bit system with a wireless connection to the same router, and everything works fine. It detects the router, and I can scan on the printer through the network. I haven't updated the Shareport version on that system. It still has the version installed by the CD, 1.16. I might try reverting to 1.16 on the Vista system, to see if it makes any difference, but I would rather work with the latest version if I can.

Does anyone have any ideas about what I can try?

ive got shareport 1.17 working on 2 vista ultimate 64bit systems in my house with a dir-855
have not tried with a printer, only had my hard drive plugged into shareport.
might be an idea to try 1.16 to see if that works on yours.
i had to change firewall settings on my of my vista machines for it to detect the hard drive. have you tried checking the firewall settings to make sure its not blocking shareport?

Thank you, no, I haven't looked into the firewall settings yet. I'm not sure what to look for or where to look.

(later) Ok, I found some information about firewall settings in another thread. Also, it might help me to read some of the discussions about Shareport 3.0. Some of the ideas and information in those discussions might apply to my version. In fact, I'm wondering if I can use 3.0 with my router, and if I would want to even if I could.

(more later) All I had to do was restart the computer. Then Windows told me it was blocking incoming connections to Shareport, and allowed me to unblock them. After that, the router appeared in the Shareport right-click menu.
