Wireless printer unable to print
« on: June 22, 2010, 08:10:04 AM »

I had been using Linksys wireless router WRT54G and my Brother MFC-7840W wireless printer for quite some time before and they worked perfectly together. Two weeks ago, I've decided to switch to DIR-655 and the wireless printer doesn't print anymore. I am not sure what's the problem, but the printer can connect to the router without a problem. I can see it but it just won't print! I've been trying to get it to work all this time, I've even plugged in a ethernet cable to see if it's a wireless problem, but it's not even that. it won't even print while plugged in. Can someone please give me some help?

I believe you say you cannot print via wireless, USB, or ethernet.  Would that be the USB on computer or on the USB Router port?

Generally, you should uninstall the printer completely.  Do the setup again using the latest version of the driver/install software from the manufacturer.  Do the entire setup clean and from scratch.  It will never work through the old router settings.

well, wireless and ethernet. i actually just want to use wireless since my printer normally is not beside the router. i haven't tried USB yet but i heard only one computer can use the usb at once?

i actually did uninstall the whole printer, reset the printer to factory default and re-install the most updated printer driver/program and everything, still no go.

Uninstall Brother software.

Run a good Registry cleaner (perhaps ccleaner)
Do your install again.

Okay my friend, sorry for your trouble.  Here are some other ideas.  Mix and match until the damn thing work.

Is there a static IP in the proper range for dlink set in the router?  Set proper static IP.
Is UPNP a factor for your router to find your printer?
Have you tried changing unicasting and multicasting changes (shouldn't be a factor unless something in your system is legacy) but give it a try.

I have found it best to eventually, after everything "works" to use DHCP reservations for everything on my network and then exclude all other ranges.  That is for extra protection.  Static IP's must work first so you can adjust everything just the way you like it.

Hi waruione,

Make sure that the Brother Printer, can make a Test Print, first from the unit, itself. If it can't, then it can't print from the computers, neither.

Replace the Ink Cartridges.

Also, the Brother Printer / All-in-One might be able to be seen by you, but the IP Address might be wrong. Are you seeing the Brother Status Icon in the Notification Area near the clock? Is it green?
