I currently have 2 x 1TB drives setup as RAID 1 in my DNS-323.  Because I am running low on space, I would like to upgrade the drives to 2 x 2TB drives.  My thought on how to do this is:
1) backup all the data on the existing drives to external media
2) power down the DNS-323
3) remove existing 1TB drives and install new 2TB drives
4) power up the DNS-323

Now this is where I would like to understand next steps - because there has been no configuration change, do I need to manually format the drives or will the DNS-323 detect the unformated drives and automatically format them as RAID 1?

Once the drives are formated, I assume its just a matter of copying the backed up data back onto the drives - are there any permissions that will need to be updated?

Just want to know the surprises up front and plan for them rather than find them out when doing the actual upgrade.

Follow all those steps, but you may have to go into the RAID configuration and tell it for format the drives and select RAID-1.  Personally, I recommend EXT3, even though it's a bit slower than EXT2, it's a more reliable filesystem.

I could be wrong on this, but I thought I read somewhere that there were issues with most new 2TB Drive cause they use a different cluster size or something. Might want to check into that before buying the drives.
