DNS-323 freezing.....
« on: July 09, 2010, 02:14:06 PM »

She has been faithful until I took a chance...

My setup:

Linksys WRT-610n v2 running DD-WRT v24 sp2 (big)
DNS-323 f/w 1.09 with 2 Samsung 2 TB HD203WI, EXT3 format

My 323 gave me a failed drive error on the right drive.  I rebooted and the drive was fine, but used it as an excuse to upgrade from 750 GB to 2 TB.  I went with the Samsungs after searching and finding that someone else had them and they were working as a JBOD.  I took the chance with RAID 1 and am having issues.  I am looking to confirm if it is me, or the unit.

During a large copy back onto the drives the unit is freezing up repeatedly.  The lights are on, it shows up in Windows 7 networking page, but I cannot access the GUI and need to unplug it to restart or shut it down.  Think it is the drives?  I am currently putting the old WD 750 GB Caviar blacks back in to test the drive theory.  Looking for additional input.  THanks.

Well, if the old drives work, you'll likely have your answer. :)

A bit of clarification.  I am wondering if anyone else is running these drives (foolishly like me against the suggestions of the suggested drives table), and is having good luck.

It has happened to me a similar lock with 2 x 1TB WD-EADS. Last time a few minutes ago. I accessed the Applications login, clicked BitTorrent and thweb page froze. Tried to refresh the page, start over the web-login, but the NAS was unable to serve the web interface. Didnt check if the storage worked normally. From last time I remember the storage worked but the web interface was kaput, needing a restart.

Apparently I didn't get my answer...

I bought the new western digital 2 TB green drives ( the ones on the supported list).

During my large file copy, the dns-323 freezes up and is totally unresponsive.

I am using supported drives so I can only assume that it is the server.  Can I roll back the F/W to a previous version?  1.08 perhaps and see if that works?  Anyone think it could be the router doing a large file transfer?  (while installing my old WD caviar black 750s, the 380 Gig transfer went fine).

Thanks for your assistance.

In addition I can log into the config page of the 323, but cannot open my mapped network drive so the device isn't completely frozen.  "the device isn't accessible.  the network path cannot be found."  When I try to disconnect the mapped network drive, Windows 7 won't let me, and if I try to map another network drive, the comptuer doesn't even see the DNS.  Even though I can log into my admin page.  Strange.....

Re: DNS-323 freezing..... SOLVED!

The DNS-323 was freezing due to the permissions issue listed in this forum.  I reset to factory defaults and then copied everythign back.  It had to do with permission issue and now is resolved.  I guess the Samsung drives worked after all.... Now I have 2 extra 2 TB Samsung drives just lying around......
