My HP laptop can't see my 4500
« on: July 26, 2010, 08:35:18 PM »

Hi guys.  I just received my router (bought used off ebay from a trusted seller).  It is still running on 1.01 firmware and I'd like to leave it alone if I can troubleshoot the one issue I'm having.

My 4500 is running fine wired to my desktop.  It is found and connects fine on my wife's old Toshiba and my buddy's 2 year old Sager notebook, but my HP Pavilion will not show my router when I click Show Available Networks.

Now my laptop has been running on my old D-link wireless router, it runs fine on the wireless at work, and when at home it detects a bunch of networks (neighbors).  But my router name doesn't show up on the list of routers to connect to.

Any help is appreciated. Even telling me what words to use to google the issue?

Thanks,
Nate

What WiFi mode and security are you running? Mixed or single mode? Some older LT WiFi cards wont see newer WPA encryption. What happens if you temp don't use any encryption? If your using Mixed, b,g and N, the HP LT should see the router. I presume that the LT works on a wired connection?

Yea, I agree with Furry. Sounds like a wireless channel conflict.

Okay guys.  Thanks for the heads up.  I'll look into that when I get a chance.

I'm not sure why, but it turns out that my laptop didn't want to detect it while on the 5GHz setting, but works fine at the 2.4GHz setting.  (channel 11).  Hopefully there's nothing to terribly wrong with 2.4GHz?

Thanks guys,
Nate

Does the LT support 5Ghz bands?  ???
