UPnP AV Support-Pretty disapointed. May return
« on: July 25, 2010, 06:43:03 PM »

So I've had device about 3 days.

First I found about the no 4K physical sector support on Hard drives

Now after loading up my song library (about 7100 songs) I found out it breaks the UPnP av server.  I can no longer sort by album or artist.  It's broken on my xbox 360 and streaming receiver.  The XBox360 and receiver do however work with my Windows PC's acting as servers.  (The main reason i bought it was so I wouldn't have to have my PC on.)

So all this device is good for a really good for is slow backup device.

Unless somebody can give me a workaround for the UPnP in the next 3 days, I'm returning it.  It's performance is non-acceptable.  It's network drive transfer rate low.  It doesn't support the latest design drives (4K sectors).  And it's AV PnP is broken (The main reason i bought it).  If one of the 3 were broken that would be okay.

This also means bad reviews on amazon and new egg.  Too bad.  For my first dlink device I was hoping for a better impression.

Can someboy recommend something better?  I'm willing to spend up to $250 without drives.

So I went shopping online to find alternatives.  I noticed a disturbing trend.  There was a lot of units which all offered the same functionality with some minor variations in options.  I'm thinking there is one company in Tiawan that makes these things and sells them out to multiple vendors.  And they all suffer from the same problems.  :-(

I'm about to buy an Atom PC and put windows 7 on it.  It will cost me about $240 all said and done, but I know it will work!
