Norton Ghost 15 Win 7 and DNS323
« on: August 09, 2010, 09:01:42 AM »

I have Win 7 Pro installed. I can map drives and use the drives no problem from the PC.
I installed Norton Ghost 15 (for backing up pc) and it cannot backup to the DNS323. It does my documents fine but when I ask for a total backup, it says I have not put in the correct permissions. Well I have no permissions on the drive.
Has anyone got Ghost 15 to work with the DNS-323?

Nope, but using Acronis True Image Home 2010, backups work just fine to the DNS-323 or DNS-321.

I stopped using Ghost shortly after it was bought out around version 5 or so if I remember rightly. They re-wrote it and it never worked right since. Like the other poster has said, I would recommend using Acronis instead.

That's the last version of Ghost I have, once the purchased the folks that made Partition Magic and used their imaging software as a base, it was never the same.

Just to add I use Macrium Reflect Free Edition to do disk imaging. It also supports partial backups. Runs in XP and above and uses the Volume Shadow Copy service. Compression ratio is configurable and you can create recovery boot CD/DVD/USB drive media. It supports saving of images to network paths but I usually save them to a locally attached USB drive first.
