Is it possible to use the print server of the 655 if it is being used as an access point only?

The 655 has no printserver. It is USB feature, which allows pass through to USB disks and printers through a client side program (Shareport). A printserver is somthing different.

But to answer the core question: Yes, Shareport is working when you use the DIR as AP.
