Strange network activity

Since I update my box to the 1.08 firmware, I can see the network led on the dns and on the switch constantly blinking (I don't read or write on dns). When I turn on my computer, the computer led on the switch blink too. When I turn off Dns, switch led stop blink

I don't use ftp, itunes..., only Windows share. I remove BT client. I don't have internet acces.

My NAS network light is always blinking too. I think it's normal- just packets flying round the network.

It's not normal. When I was in FW1.06 I don't have this problem. I have just a switch, a computer and dns, there aren't a lot of packets flying in this configuration.

Whether or not it's "normal" will depend on what's "normal" for that particular network - a flashing network light is an indicator of network activity - of traffic flowing on the network, and networks don't just generate traffic of their own accord, there has to be a network host, communicating or trying to communicate with another host somewhere.

In this case there would appear to be a process running on the DNS-323 that's generating the traffic - because the flashing occurs when only the DNS-323 is on - I would reset the DNS-323 to factory defaults and reconfigure it, it's generally a good thing to do after a firmware upgrade.

I don't have any services running, but it's normal for my network- according to Wireshark my router is busy periodically broadcasting questions to the devices.

Some routers are like that - the Netgear ProSafe range come to mind (if it's one of those you can disable it) - but most don't.

Like I said, what's normal will depend on the network.
