modem dsl-320t and dir-600 router not working
« on: March 25, 2012, 09:24:10 AM »

hi everyone, i'd like to have help about the devices in the post title, I'm not a geek about nets, so I need help configuring the dsl-320t modem connected to the dir-600 router.
Already tried some configuration, with dhcp enabled and disabled, tried to assign a static ip to the router and tried to put the modem in bridge mode, but fail miserably  ;D.

Now I've resetted both devices, if I connect with the ethernet cable my pc and one of the four lan connectors on the router, and then use another ethernet cable to connect the modem port with one of the other three free router port, I can connect to internet. Any other configuration i tried has not worked.

Could you please guide me step-by-step, to try solving this problem ? now the two devices are both resetted so no custom setting is applied.

What ISP Modem do you have? Stand Alone or built in router?
What ISP Modem make and model do you have?
If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.

I would contact the ISP and have them help you bridge the modem if possible.

Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Cat 53 or Cat6 is recommended.

hi, actually modem is set in PPPoE mode, it hasn't  a built-in router, this is the modem

http://www.dlink.co.uk/cs/Satellite?c=TechSupport_C&childpagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLTechProduct&cid=1197319449530&p=1197318962293&packedargs=locale%3D1195806691854&pagename=DLinkEurope-GB%2FDLWrapper

and this is the router

http://www.dlink.com/DIR-600

if I use only the modem in PPPoE, I can correctly connect to internet and surfing, if I connect the dir-600 router to another philips router I can again correctly connect to internet and surfing, if I connect the dsl-320t modem to the dir-600 router it doesn't work.

Should I set the modem in bridge mode even if it hasn't a built-in router ? if yes, should I keep the dhcp enabled or not ? what about the firewall and the nat, always on the modem configuration pages ?

thanks

Yes bridge the modem. Youll need to use ur act info on the router under setup/internet/manual/connection type. Bridging will turn odd any dhcp services on the modem.

i set the modem in bridge mode saved and reboot the device

than I've connected the DIR-600 to the bridged modem and entered the gateway address 192.168.0.1 in browser, and navigated to setup manual configuration.
Is this the screen you was talking about in the previous post ?

I would call the ISP and ensure the DSL modem is correctly set up for bridge mode.
Also make sure your PCs are auto obtain IP addressing and they are getting and IP, Gateway and DNS from the 600 router.
