DIR-625 revA1 and DWA-642
« on: October 17, 2008, 03:03:54 PM »

Hello, can I ask why my units are listed here in the Gold Products and the boxes have Platinum Series written all over them?
I bought them a year ago and could not get the 625 to access the internet. I never opened the 642. I tried again today and got them working the second time around.
I have Verizon dsl with a frame relay circuit with DHCP. I had to clone my mac address and turn on unicasting before I could ever get online. I have a Fujitsu speedport modem.
I have my main pc with Vista wired and my laptop with XP3 wireless.I had a heck off a time getting the laptop to go online even though I was showing a good connection and my card was acting ok.I think it has to do with Norton and windows firewall. I really don't know how I got it on line but it is working now. I have no security turned on now as far as the router is concerned.
I will be back with questions later.

Platinum and Gold "words" are marketing terms.  It could be that you purchased the units prior to D-Link releasing additional products (the newer Platinum line.)

As for the Windows firewall and Norton problems,  you need to tell Norton's Anti-Virus / firewall module to trust the wireless SSID.  For the Windows firewall, I do not believe that there is anything that blocks access.
