Power Light, display, and wireless not working
« on: January 26, 2011, 02:08:53 AM »

Today I noticed that I had no internet connection, so I flipped the switch on the surge protector to restart the power. After I flipped the switch back on, the router's power light, or the display screen are not turning on. It's like the router isn't getting power. Everything else on the surge protector is still working. I have tried using different power outlets and still the same thing. But the router has to be getting power because I have this computer plugged up with an ethernet cord at the back and I can get an internet connection, and when I remove the power cord from the router, the connection disconnects. I cannot get a wireless connection though. I have tried accessing the router's web page, 192.168.0.1, but it won't connect to that. Holding down the reset button does nothing either. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

How long have you left the router powered off for? try at least 30sec-1min. If not then it could be the power supply possibly however your getting some power obviously. How long have you had this router?

Oh oh. Thats not a good sign. When you said "flipped the switch" did you mean the surge reset switch or the power on switch? Do you have a history of surges and brown outs? If so, I think one damaged your router :-( Also, have you tried plugging the router direct into the wall? Alot of times surge protectors can be suplying power, but not enough power, to put simply. If that doesn't work, you may want to try a new power supply. Alot of times those die and the actual routers are quite fine.

I have had the router off for hours and tried plugging it back in and still the same thing. I have only had this router for a month.

I flipped the switch on the surge protector. And I didn't flip the switch on it because of a power surge, just to turn off the whole network to restart it, since everything on the network is plugged into the same surge protector. I have tried plugging it directly into the wall, but it still does the same thing. It could be the power supply, but I was getting power to the ethernet ports, so I'm not totally sure. I will probably go ahead and call D-Link tech support. I just wanted to come here and see what everyone else thought about the problem before I did.

Glad you came here to the forums. Ya, seems like this is a hard ware issue and needs to be RMAd. Let us know how it goes.
