Automatic Reboot with every change?
« on: September 28, 2010, 08:31:24 PM »

Router: DIR-615
Hardware: E3
Firmware:5.10
Setup: Wired to router, multiple browsers.

When ever I change any setting, my router forces a reboot. I have had other d-link routers(DIR-628,DGL-4300, and DGL-4500) and they have always asked if I want to reboot now or later. Was this done on purpose? And if so, why? Is there any firmware fix? Is it just some hardware revisions? I am doing a report on this router and this could be a real deal breaker. Any info would be great. Thanks

Did you try reverting to the factory default firmware?  Did this start after a firmware upgrade?

Happened with router right out of the box, so the firmware is the factory set one. Doesnt appear to be a upgrade anyway for the E3.   I ran the CD just to see what it did (I am a random tester for a review board we use at work) and after I went into the gateway to see what settings were changed and how. The first thing I did was disable the wireless because I wanted to test wired dependability without complication. In my DGL-4500 not only did this not require a reset, but those changes that did asked if you wanted to reboot now or later. Does anyone else with the E3 get this option? I am trying to see if this is a bug or just a feature of the router. Thanks

The forced reboot is a requirement when making specific changes on the DIR-615 (and other DLink hardware I own -- e.g. DNS-343), but I don't recollect the DIR rebooting for "every" change.  This is something I'll look at later and get back to you.  FYI, I'm using hardware version C1.

For what it is worth, hardware version B2 does not force a reboot, it gives the option of a reboot now or later.

Thanks. And theres two factors. Factor A is what changes require a reboot. And factor b is if it asks you to reboot now or later. Not only does every (even something as small as changing log settings) change create a 15 second soft boot, but it does it automatically as soon as you click on "Save Settings". And for other things, it requires a 60 second full boot where I actually loose connection. This make troubleshooting the router over the phone with a novice extremely annoying.

If anyone can confirm this on a E3 revision, I would be most grateful.

Speaking for the C1, often when I "Save Settings" the system will reboot without notification, so that factor is not unique to you.
