Backup Software & Other Issues!
« on: September 26, 2010, 05:59:29 PM »

I just purchased this device and I configured it as Drive Z:.  Neither the DriveClone Pro software that came with it or the Nero BackItUp software will see drive Z:.  They only see drive C:. So, I can only manual back up my data.  Why is that? How can I resolve this issue?  I have Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

It also says that it supports playing your media via the Xbox 360 but I can't find any information on how to set that up.

How do you know if one of the drives has failed or if it's rebuilding a drive, etc. if you can't see the until itself?  It's says something about looking at the light if it has changed from blue to yellow, but it's locked away in another location and I can't see it.

Can you setup the email notifications via a hotmail account?  If so, what is the SMTP settings?

Thank you for reading this and your help and your time in helping me to resolve these issues.

You can configure email updates to send you email when an unusual event occurs on the NAS, check the configuration.

For backup, I've used a variety of backup applications, but the included DriveClone is apparently pretty lame from all reports here.

Why don't you try some backup software such as Oops!Backup which supports UNC paths.  Backing up a mapped drive letter can cause a lot of problems.

I personally prefer to backup a UNC path such as \\nasdrive\documents\...
I downloaded OOps!Backup from www.altaro.com.

All my backups use UNC paths, I don't map stuff from the NAS units unless it's a temp for a special application run.

Yep ++ on this one.

Use Oops!Backup to back up to my Drobo FS NAS and works a treat.

Hmm... Oops backup... strange name but looks like it's what I need... something that's fast to get going... is it like a TimeMachine type backup?
