Disable Wireless Access to Admin Page
« on: October 04, 2010, 01:23:37 AM »

Is there a way to disable this on the DIR-655? This is the page that you get when you type in 192.168.0.1. to access the router. I want to make it so no wireless computers can access this page only wired connections. I looked through the settings and didn't seem to see anything.

If there is not an option, I was wondering what you all use for admin passwords to keep your connection secure. Do you use say a WPA key for this or for example a 15 letter normal password? Thanks for the info in advance.

Perhaps using the guest-zone feature (and applying the 'restrict routing between zones') will have this effect. You could try :-)

Just use a password of the admin accouunt and the user account then they will have no way to get into the settings pages.

You 'think' that or did you actually try?

Thank you both for the suggestions. I was just thinking you didn't understand correctly what I wanted. Adding the guest zone and leaving the check off for enable routing between zones actually achieved what I was wanting. Sorry for not trying it first, but it seemed like there would be a button for that as it does make things more handy and secure. I also didn't want to turn on the guest zone if I didn't have to.

If anyone else doesn't want wireless devices to be able to get to the 192.168.0.1 page this is how to do that on this router.

??? It does work, there just isn't a simply described button for doing this specifically.

Also, no one answered to what kind of password you should have to keep this secure. I just use a simple one and not a WPA key or anything for it. I guess it doesn't much matter now that they can't access it from a wireless device though. People are capable of cracking the wireless anyways, but this does keep things a lot more secure for the router itself.
