DFL-160: IPSec VPN access from Android device
« on: December 04, 2010, 04:40:49 AM »

I tried to configure VPN access to my DFL-160 firewall from an Android device. I was not able to establish a IPSec secured L2TP connection to the firewall from the Android device. My device is an Entourage Edge (www.entourageedge.com) tablet running Android 1.6.

While the Android IPSec combination did not work for L2TP with IPSec, I managed to configure the following connections successfully:

  • IPSec VPN connection from my Windows 7 PC
  • IPSec VPN connection from my Nokia N97 phone
  • L2TP non IPSec connection from my Android tablet

Only the combination of Android 1.6 and IPSec did not work, whatever I tried. I have to admit that Android seems to be very limited. While Windows as well as Symbian allow me to configure every single detail of the IPSec, IKE protocols, Android just allows to specify an IP and a preshared key.

Has anyone managed to connect to a NetDefend Firewall from Android successfully?

(Firmware is 2.27.02.01)
