Shareport supported under Win 7 or not??
« on: December 23, 2009, 08:25:25 PM »

Having read several of the threads, and talking to D-Link support, they say it is not supported. Some customers appear to say you can get it working. My DiR-628 under 64 bit Windows can't see any USB device I plug in.
Update (Dec 29, 2009): With DLINK's help, I installed firmware 1.22 (fw_122NA) then tried to connect my laser printer through the USB port of my DOR-628 and it worked!
Message to D-Link:  pls provide info on your website about how to use Shareport under Win 7 - your techs say it is not supported yet, which is not true (and disappointing to hear). Hope this helps others.

I was having problems with Shareport in Windows 7, my most recent attempt at getting it to work was to uninstall shareport and use SX-Virtual link version 3.4 and so far I have gotten good results (no disconnects or dropped connections yet!).  Hopefully D-Link will soon release their version of this software.

Bierflesje, you need to be running firmware 1.2x or higher and install the 64-bit version on Win 64 bit.

But first of all, what doesn't Shareport (or the original) do?

Hi,

The Silex prgram is obviously what DLink has licensed and turned into shareport....

It sems a little better for my situation with flaky printing under Win7 x64, but ti still eventually does the same stuff about half (or partially) printed pages and such....

SharePort 3.0 for PC does work with Windows 7 (what you need to do is allow it in your firewall).  After weeks of frustration (and one Re-install of Win7 which didn't matter or help) I finally got SharePort to work with my printer and the DIR-655 i have.  And I have the latest firmware for that router, which is 1.34N.  It's a bit tricky (what I did is let my firewall go into interactive mode, and then let it ask me to allow access to and from my router via the port used by SharePort).
