SOLVED: Problems with DAP-1522 and DNS-323
« on: November 23, 2010, 11:17:46 AM »

I've got D-Link products.

1x DAP 1522
1x DNS 323
1x DIR 855

Guest room:
Internet Cable Modem, 1 PC, DIR 855

Living room:
DAP 1522, MacMini

Other stuff:
Laptops, smartphones etc.

For a long time I've had the DNS 323 set up on a port on the DIR 855. Due to guests and noise from the DNS 323 I've moved it out in the livingroom and connected it to the DAP 1522. It's better even because the DNS 323 is sharing content to the Mac Mini mainly.

When the DNS 323 was in the guestroom, connected to the DIR 855, everyone could access it. No problems. Smart phones connected to wifi, Mac Mini via DAP 1522 bridge or laptops. No problem.

Now the DNS 323 is in the livingroom, it's connected to the DAP 1522. Now anyone but the PC in the guestroom can connect to the DNS 323. It's wierd.

The Mac Mini and PS3 reaches it by cable, all three connected by cable to the DAP 1522.

Laptops and smart phones reach it by connecting over wifi to the DIR 855, and then via air to the DAP 1522. At least that's my understanding.

The PC can see the DNS 323 in network explorer, and open the share called "web_page", but not the fileshare called "Volume_1", neither can it access the web admin console via http.

The pc is wired into the network via a network cable connected to the DIR 855.

If I bring the DNS 323 back to the guest room, it's all working again. No IP addresses changes. Just the "wirering".

Ping and Tracert works from the guestroom pc to the DNS 323.

Turning off firewalls and antivirus software on the guestroom PC doesn't help the situation.

So my question is, is this some wierd config in any of my components that I need look into. Or a strange "bug/feature" I have to live with?

Other information:
Guestroom PC: Commodo Internet Security Premium, Windows 7 Ultimate
Laptops: Commodo Internet Security Premium, Vindows Vista
Mac Mini: Apple OSX Snow Leopard
DIR 855: A D-Link Wireless router/Gigabit switch
DNS 323: A D-Link network storage
DAP 1522: A wifi bridge as I use it :)

I have almost similar setup as yours.

Media, PS3 & DNS323 wired to DAP1522 bridge to DIR825. Then using Iphone, laptop wirelessly over the network.

Keep in mind that, once DAP1522 is in bridge mode, it's connected wirelessly to DIR825 ONLY. However, if you connect anything to DAP1522 with a WIRE, you are actually connecting to DIR825. (another client)

When bridging between DAP and DIR in what mode, N or G ?
and when connecting DIR and PC in what mode, N or G ?
I'm asking because, channels should not be to close when using the same.

Even I didnt helped you to solve this, but it may help you somehow to solve it.

PS: I still have a massive problem to connect DAP1522 with DIR825 to Billion VOIP ;)

Hmm

The DNS323 is connected via a high quality cable(30 cm) to the DAP1522
The DAP 1522 is in 5ghz N mode with the DIR 855.

The computer that cannot read the main share or the webconsole is using another high quality cable to the DIR 855 (90 cm).

The computer which has problems can ping, tracert and conect to one share but not the main share. :-/

I think I've given up on this, and will just move the DNS 323 back to where it worked.

Using google to search, I found another user where who had the same problem. It turns out that Jumbo Frames are to blame, I switched them off on the Guest Room PC, and now it works.

SOLVED. :)
