During playback of a DivX/Xvid (AC3 or DTS) movie, every few minutes (in the EXACT same spots each time), the audio "clips" (or pops, skips a beat or something like that).
4/22/08 - Always, if you pause, FF/REW or # jump the movie. Not near as often if you just play from beginning to end. 

PC playback does not have this problem.

Operating environment:
Wired 10/100
Any media server (D-Link, Twonky and TVersity)
DivX and XviD with AC3 or DTS
AutoGK stable or beta

My server is a dedicated 3.2Ghz P4 with 2gb running on Windows XP Pro SP2.  It's connected to a DLINK 10/100/1000 switch along with the DSM-520 (both directly on my DGL-4300 router and same problem). I also serve from my Vista 64 system and ALL videos do the same exact things in the same exact spots.

Here is the annoying part. If I copy one of the AVI's to a USB 2.0 memory stick they play fine from USB Direct. (4/22/08 - only if you don't pause, FF/REW or # jump the movie) 

I am at a loss.

I picked up a cheap MP-1368-AS media player (also works as an external usb 2.0 HDD enclosure, for up to 750gb sata/pata drives) and I have absolutely NO problems with any of my DivX/XviD; AC3/DTS encodes. Audio/Video playback is superb for how generic this portable media player is.

I'm getting very frustrated with this DSM-520.

Have you updated to firmware 1.06 to see if you have the same issue? This is very strange have you tried Windows Media player 11 as well as your server?

I thought 1.05 was the latest firmware?  I'm running 1.05 and I believe WMP 11 had the same problem but, I will double-check.

Tested 3 different encodes last night, served from Vista 64/WMP11, and they have the same problem.

They play fine on any PC/Laptop and from the MP-1368-AS media player.

Same problem, nothing at all changed, with v1.06 firmware and/or Media Server 1.10 / WMP 11 on Vista 64 or XP Pro.

I have an audio sample of the problem but it appears that I am not allowed to make use of attachments.

Okay, I can duplicate the problem at anytime.  By pressing a # and jumping to somewhere in the movie it rears it's ugly head.

If I play a movie for about 20 seconds and jump back to the beginning by pressing "0", every 10-30s the audio will skip. It does maintain sync though.

Has the same problem when playing from a high-speed memory stick with USB Direct.

Have you tried other recoding software then AutoGK as you stated was used for creating your video files?

I haven't found any other programs that work even half as good.  Most programs produce out of sync audio or have no audio at all, even on PC playback.

I want a 1gb to 2gb mp4 with AC3/DTS sound.  AutoGK does this perfectly and all my other media playing hardware works great with the same movies.

Problem only occurs with AC3/DTS movies.  2 channel VBR/CBR audio is fine.

Try TVersity.  There's a thread about how to get AC3 to the DLink on their support forum.  You might have to play around a little, but I get AC3 to work routinely and all my Xvids are done with AutoGK.

One of my systems is running TVersity and it does the same exact thing.

I just ran a 45m movie through AutoGK and have been jumping back and forth within it. So far, I have only heard the audio skip once.  However, a 1h 45m movie is a completely different story. They will skip multiple times per minute.

Still playing with different options, and haven't been able to determine a cause.

Well...Thought I would test out the wireless connection (as a last resort) and guess what, I can't duplicate the problem.  I've been jumping all around, in the same movies as before, and they are 95% better wireless. (DGL-4300 Gaming Router)

I downloaded new NASA WMV9 HD's (from my laptop this time) and they are still buggered, EXACTLY the same problem wired or wireless. No change with them.

This makes no sense.
