I am scared to load Windows Home Server as a new installation_because installing will erase all the data on all of my hard drives.
I am paranoid. I have purchased two DCS-1130 cameras. I have an HP trio that I want to interface with a Two Wire Router wireless modem. The mini tower is using WIN 7, it is connected with Ethernet cable RJ-45. I bought a 1.5TB black My Essential WD Smartware USB drive that I hoped to be my server; connected to the mini tower USB. The software for thDCS-1130 is D-View Cam and requires the Windows Home Server PP2 to "add-in." The other two laptops are wireless and all have Win 7. I can boot the installation CD but I don't appreciate having to loose all the data on my hard drive. I have back up CD's that are one calendar year old (will they restore the computer to what I see today also there is a "factory image," on the C drive, WILL THIS BE LOST)?
During the Windows Home Server installation one is prompted to remove any external drive. If I am obedient to the suggestion how can the 1.5T My Book Essential be my server (it won't have the drivers installed)? If I erase all my data on my desk top HP mini tower during the installation will the Windows Home Server restore this once it finishes loading? Also may one have a home computer and server in one machine or will the server really be the My Book. I bought the MY book because I read a specification where you need a large file for storage.
