DIR-655 Configuration to Access DSL Modem
« on: May 08, 2008, 08:01:02 AM »

I have configured a SpeedTouch 516 DSL modem to run in "bridged mode" via its HTTP interface while in "router mode". I connected the DIR-655 router, configured its PPoE and everything runs OK.

I am trying to access now the modem to review/change its configuration and I am unable to do so. Its default address 192.168.1.254 is not accessible anymore.

Is there anyway i can configure the router to be able to access the modem?

Hi, you will need to get in touch with your ISP to reset your modem so that you can access
it. Since you bridged it you cannot get direct access to the modem.

Rambo may be right.
If he isn't plug you PC directly into the ethernet port of the modem with it having a static IP in the network range the modem had, try 192.168.1.5

If it has a hardware reset, that might be the ticket to put it in router mode.

I had reset to factory settings, i put it in bridge mode again but left DHCP server on. I can connect to it directly, it gives 192.168.1.64. Its address is 192.168.1.254. I hook up the router into it an plug the computer into the router, again I am unable to connect to its interface. I read on the Internet, that it should be possible to configure the router Routing table to make it possible to access it. I just do not know how .... Any ideas?

Just because the modem is bridged doesn't mean that you can't reach it's IP.
It's still going to reside at its ip address. Also it would depend on the type of bridge that you are using. (i.e. routed or non-routed bridge modes.)
