DIR665/DAP1522 connected to each other but no internet access?
« on: September 17, 2010, 06:47:28 PM »

Hi all,

I am having problems getting to the internet using a DIR-665 and DAP-1522 connected to desktop PC.  I believe I have everything connected and configured properly, because it shows connected on the bridge status page, AND the desktop is getting an IP address from the router, BUT I cannot access the internet.  I get the little exclamation point (windows 7) in the system tray icon.

DIR-665 settings – 5ghz, 20/40, channel 34, WPA2 with AES cipher

DAP-1522 – switch set to bridge mode – I used the wizard to connect manually to the 665, the only thing I had to manually choose was the correct SSID and input the passphrase.  I also had to input the default gateway on the setup page as it was blank.  The 1522 has a fixed IP of 192.168.0.50 and is outside the route DHCP range so that should be fine.

I have tried powering on and off both routers, resetting the devices and ensuring the most current firmware, etc…

I just don’t understand this problem. >:(  It must be connected as the 665 sees the computer and assigns it an IP address within the DHCP range.  But it will not connect me to the internet.  Before anyone asks, I have another desktop attached to the 665 with no connection problems at all.

FWIW – I cannot ping either the 665 or the 1522 from opposite ends if that makes sense.  So the DAP-1522 connected PC cannot log into the 192.168.0.1 DIR-665 router or vice versa.

Questions –
1.    If is shows connected on the bridge status page with full info, channel, SSID, etc..  is it safe to assume it is truly connect or could this be false information.
2.   Should the 1522 Bridge static IP address show up in the LAN table or the WIFI client table or neither?
3.   The desktop shows up in the LAN table – I believe… is that correct?

Thanks in advance to any/all help.
Tom ???

The Dir 655 must be connected to your internet connection ie DSL or cable modem.  You can then access the dir 655. You then connect the dap 1522 to the dir 655 with an ethernet cable.  Access the dap 1522 by 192.168.0.50.
Use the connection wizard. Then access the dir 655 and go to WPs in the advanced mode.

I've been experiencing the same problem. Both router and DAP-1522 show that they are connected wirelessly, but any devices connected to the DAP-1522 cannot access the internet. When I plug in my laptop to the Bridge, I do get an IP address from the router DHCP server, but when I try to ping the default gateway router...I get nothing. Am not sure who is dropping the request the router or the bridge. I played with the options on both the router and the DAP-1522 and I still can't cant get traffic to go thru even though both devices show wireless connection active and in healthy state. From the router side, I try to ping the DAP-1522, sometimes it can reach it, but most times there is no response. I even sat both devices next to each other where wireless connection is at 100%; connected my laptop for a test, worked for couple minutes and then again the exclamation sign shows up and no longer able to get internet.
I hope D-link will release a final fix or at least a good explanation why it is not working.   >:(
