I just set-up my new DNS-323 with two 1TB hard drives. I configured it with 850 GB of RAID 1 and the remainder as JBOD.
I then mapped the respective volumes. Now, when I view this configuration in Windows Explorer, it shows Volume 1 as 779 GB and Volume 2 as 272 GB.
I didn't really understand that as I expected the two volumes to mirror each other. I then came to the conclusion that Volume 1 must be my RAID 1 and Volume 2 is my JBOD. So, Windows Explorer is giving me a logical representation of my set-up rather than a physical representation. Is my thinking correct?
If so, then I will never actually see my RAID 1 data duplicated on the two physical drives? I guess I'm just supposed to assume that if I see it data on the RAID 1 logical volume, it is being duplicated on two physical volumes? Is that correct?
Thanks in advance,
Ron
