DNS-323 Backup
« on: January 31, 2011, 03:16:18 PM »

Hi All

Just a quick question if anyone knows the best way to do this.

Got 2 dns-323's both with 2 wd 2tb hard-drives. Exact same setups both setup on RAID-1.

Currently I have nero backit up creating my data backups for me...but its slow as hell having to run it on a pc which backs up data from one network drive to another, anyone know of a quicker way of doing it?

Thanks as always

FXP using something like FlashFXP. Setup the FTP server on both DNS-323 and it can do folder compares. It would allow you to not be the middle man for transfers just the queuing.

Hmmm

I'll try that, was hoping there would eventually be a backup utility built into the firmware, maybe for 1.10 ;o)
Is it possible to schedule FlashFXP to work on a schedule?

Thanks for the info

Well, you could use rsync. You'll need to setup fun plug and then do something like this or this

It's safe and quite easy, even with little *nix know-how. Worst case, there's a very friendly forum here you can ask for help.

Unless I'm very much mistaken, you can do this with the scheduled download application that's built-in to the DNS-323 - simply run it on one and tell it to download from the other.

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

Correct that the schedule backup can do it as well without a middle-man at all. I posted about it not too long ago if you search for my posts.
