Hi everybody,

First things first, I love my DNS-323.

I am confused about the UPnP AV Server and the support for the various file formats. Specifically, I wonder why the server does not support .SRT files. For example, I can stream DivX and MP4 to my (Samsung) TV but without (external) subtitles.

Whose responsibility is this? D-Link's or UPnP's itself?

In other words, my question is, should we, users, ask D-Link to add support for .SRT files (when streaming movies) or is it the UPnP protocol that does not support streaming of subtitles?

Any ideas?

I would very much appreciate it if you could provide me with a reasonable answer. Your reply does not have to be a solution to the problem. Just speak your mind.  Bottom line is, I have my DNS-323 filled with great movies but without subtitle support I may have to think about moving them to another media server solution if this is not expected to (or cannot) be fixed in the future.

Been a while since i've dealt with SRT files, but from what I recall it is down to the device you are using to play them.

Could be a number of issues, i am not even sure that the DNS-323 UPNP media server would actually serve those files, but even if they do the only thing I can think of is making sure that the srt file has the same name as the movie and that it is placed into the same directory.

VLC plays them fine if the above criteria are met, i would imagine the issue is 2 fold, (a) getting the upnp server to stream the srt files and (b) getting a player on your end device that can use them.

Well, the server is DNS-323 UPnP AV server and the player is a Samsung UE46C7000 TV.
The TV supports SRT files when playing a movie from a USB connected disk but not when the same files are served by the NAS.

In my case I have the same issue. Playing on my PS3.

A quick fix I found and has nothing to do with the 323 or the player is to Add the subs directly to the movie with a program call  - AVIAddXSub - It is pretty easy to use and you can actually turn on/off the subtitles once its on the movie. It takes less than 2 minutes to add the subs to the movie and its a really easy fix for your problem. It works pretty good .... and its FREE .... LOL

quite a bit of core functionality there aswell, you would think it would have been built into a upnp video streamer.
