Need a networking guru to advise me, please!
« on: February 09, 2011, 09:37:26 AM »

I have the DCS-930L camera, connected to a Linksys WRT160NL router.  The camera works find and I can view it via the Dlink website, but ... even though the router supports uPnP I can only view for 60 seconds.  My provider isn't blocking uPnP so I don't know what's going on.

Anyway, I tried to bypass the Dlink website by

1 - set the camera up to port 8080
2 - set the router to port forward 8080 to the camera

Now when I type in my address:8080 I can see the camera, but since I'm on DHCP the ip address will change.  I want to use something link Dyndns, but I'm not sure how to set this up.  My dilemma is that I'm not sure if the router should be set up with dyndns or the camera?  Since my router acts as a dns server the camera's IP will change, but so will the router's.  Am I making sense?

Any help appreciated!

Problem solved.  I set up a DHCP reservation for an IP address for the camera, so the IP doesn't change.  Now I can use dynddns for the router.
