Looking for "How To's"
« on: October 21, 2008, 03:54:20 AM »

G'day all,
I am new to this DNS-323 stuff and still in the wow factor of what can be done with it.
But am unable to find many/any how to guides.
The ones I have found are well over my head in tech terms, I am no dummy when it comes to these things ::) but having said that it gets hard when you have a whole lot of new tech acronyms thrown at you all at once, end up spending most of my time goggling acronyms and then forget what I was originally looking for....

So this is my goal and would love to hear in la mans terms if it can be done and how to go about doing it. Even some step by step instructions would be great :P . but I would also be just as happy if I was pointed to the right website.

1. I would love to have it set up with webDAV.
So that I can subscribe to all my firefox bookmarks passwords and profiles and anyone I give permission to can subscribe to my Calendar/s.

2. Be able to host my own images, vidoes and files.
Same thing as what photobucket, imageshack and those kinds of sites offer.

3.Set up a teamspeak server.
teamspeak is a nice way of using your pc as a internet intercom between workers when in the push to talk mode.

4.Set up a web page.
one for my file hosting set up (so I can access the files from firefox)
and two just a basic web page.

Yes I know google is a great tool and I have used it but have not been able to find what I need.

I have read a lot about this fun plug, but have not been able to get a description of what it actually is, most sites have said you need to try it to understand it...... I find that hard to believe. Is this what I need to start? or is there another tool which would suite what I'm doing?

The DNS-323 is strictly a linux-based NAS device and is not open source. We do not directly support modifications to the device or the software. There are however sites out there dedicated to this and the 'fun_plug' that you speak of. Try google searching "DNS323 Wiki".

Thanks for the reply though disappointing.

Would be very nice to see 1, 2 and 4 in ver1.06 firmware.

1.06 is nearing its final stages of beta before release so there will not be any further feature additions to it. However I will be opening a 1.07 thread for feature requests :).

Cool  8)
Will put those ideas in the new thread.
The top hit on your Google search in the Beginners FAQ explains the lot, in terms that even I can understand.
