Help telnetting to a router
« on: January 27, 2011, 06:38:50 AM »

Hey guys and girls?

Am new to d-link and am trying to configure a router, its a DFL-860. I only have a console cable with me at the moment and I was wondering if there is any way of telnetting into the router from say Hyperterminal, or any other software.

I have done this with cisco routers before and it used to be fairly simple. I've tried the same procedure with this router using the following settings but haven't been successful as yet.
     Bit rate: 9600
     Data bit: 8
     Parity: None
     Stop bits: 1
     Flow control: Hardware

I've read around and found that its quite fast if you have a modem but I don't have one.

Hoping someone could show me how to achieve this using the console cable.

Thanks.

hi...best thing to do is to use ssh to access the router.
you need to enable ssh management in system/remote management and add a new remote management instance and select ssh.
You then can use any ssh client such as putty for example.
