Hello, I have owned the DGL-4500 router for 1 night and suffering a small issue here.

When I connect to the router with my pc, wirelessly, the connection starts out great, but as time goes on the connection slowly and steadily degrades, giving me a higher ping and slower response, i am the only pc connected wirelessly to this router with 100% signal and there are 3 other 'boxes on the network connected through the wired ports (a desktop pc, laptop, and xbox 360 elite). Curious if anyone else was having this issue. I know the issue lies somewhere within the router reason being if i hook directly up to the cable modem i get a perfect and fast connection, and if i connect to other wireless connections in the area, which have a low or very low grade signal i get perfectly fine speeds.

The only thing I can think of is there needs to bee massive amounts of special configurations done for the other devices on the network as there may be extra traffic just being thrown out to everyone on my router causing an overall slow down? What does everyone else think? I am open to feedback here this issue is really irritating. I am a newb in dealing with router configurations so someone toss me a rope here i'd appreciate it!

Have you secured your wireless network using WEP or WPA? It is quite possible others maybe accessing the internet through your router.

yes it is secured with WPA, i've also added the mac address filter and have the WAP on invisible so its not advertising "hey im right here!".

Not broadcasting your SSID does not keep you from going "hey I'm right here!" it just keeps your name from cluttering inexperienced users SSID lists.  It is not a security measure in the least.  Sorry I just had to pop in with that tidbit.

Elaborating on Fatmans comment, if you use software like netstumbler (which anyone who crack crack even the easiest of wep keys would use) shows the BSSID (MAC address braodcast), disabling the SSID broadcast simply disables the user friendly ESSID ( Enhanced SSID). AT NO TIME IS DISBLING THE SSID BROADCAST CONSIDERED A VALID SECURTY MEASURE. In fact we have seen issues where the end user was having connectivity issues when the broadcast is disabled.

we're straying from the problem at hand here, i have WPA turned on, im in a residential area (an apartment) and I don't think enough people in the complex would have any idea what you're talking about let alone how to execute it in order to eventually bog down my connection like the situation that is happening (and if there is then the router isnt such a good one and i should probably get my money back). My connectivity to the router is at 100%, i've found the network and connect to it every time with no problem, the connection just starts out great and perfect and slowly works its way up to an untolerable ping for my ventrilo and WoW connections, web browsing is slowed as well after this peroid of time (roughly 30 minutes to an hour) has passed.

Alright so update. I have narrowed my issue down to 1 of the room mates computers, Don't quite know what it is but if i plug him in the connection slowly begins degrading, unplug him and its good again. so not a router issue after all. Thank you all for helpfull suggestions though, i appreciate your time.

That sounds like a worm replicating itself and using your bandwidth to redistrube itself.

bumping this back up. I've had my DGL-4500 for several months and i noticed IMMEDIATELY upon getting it and having it secured, my router would also cause the exact same problems as stated above. I've noticed that for the most part with the same applications. WoW and ventrilo. After looking into it further i noticed the connection that yes bit torrent and ventrilo clash, that's understandable. However on top of that and browsing through the log files on the router, if "only" ventrilo is open i start receiving an abundance of these messages which i believe are a direct cause.

Continueing on until the end of time. I'm able to hear people just fine, clear as if i was speaking to them in person. However the instant i attempt to speak, they hear a short 5 second sentence chopped up over the course of 20+ seconds.

So for the sake of experiment, i am well aware of what consequences could come of it. Is there any way to completly allow ICMP packets to be sent? If this increases the performance of the router, i will find other security measures to protect my system

Guys ICMP type 3 is a destination host unreachable message. This is normal operation. It should not cause lag on the router.

i read that as well but-- alright looking further into it. Both my old D-Link and Linksys router's do not encounter this problem with connecting, what else could be affecting this and blocking packets?
