Timezone off by 1 hour after reboot
« on: October 25, 2008, 10:39:31 PM »

When I reboot, I frequently find that the time is 1 hour behind -- i.e. it appears as if DST is not set.

On the web interface, I have configured "ntp1.dlink.com" as my ntp server, set GMT-05:00 as my timezone and set DST for USA.

When I press <set time> under the NTP server, the time gets set correctly.
However, it messes up again frequently after reboot.

Any idea why it is not remembering the timezone/dst properly between reboots?

Their NNTP server may be out-of-sync, overloaded, or not properly maintained.  Look for official Time Zone sources in your region ... I suggest using a Stratum 2 NNTP server.  I'm using the following NNTP server for my region:

time.chu.nrc.ca  (http://www.nrc.ca)

I'm not sure it's a timeserver problem, since I had similar issues using another timeserver.
It seems more like it "forgets" or doesn't run the appropriate daylight savings time adjustment on reboots.

It's not forgetting ... it's just doing what it supposed to IMHO; both on the 323 and the 343.  It's not my environment as all my devices are using the above mentionned time source and they are all correct.

I seem to recall it working fine at one time, but I hadn't looked at the time in the DNS since a few f/w's back.

So any thoughts on what might be causing this?
The interesting thing is again if I manually sync from the web interface, then it gets the time right.

Could it be that the timing of DST (which was changed last year) is wrong in the firmware so that (at least for this week) the timing is off?
(but then again I seem to remember having the problem before this week....)

Not off hand ... unless a manual sync is initiated, it just doesn't work correctly.  IMHO, it's a bug and will need to be addressed ... I've created a 'feature suggestion' post in the hopes that D-Link engineering picks it up.
