Having soem Wireless N problems with the Intel 4965AGN card
« on: November 11, 2008, 05:44:13 PM »

Alright, I have the DGL-4500 and with the below configuration:

firmware 1.02 -- I've download 1.12,1.13, and 1.15 but I do not know which is the better one without hiccups.

802.11 Bond = 5Ghz
802.11 Mode = Mixed 802.11a and 802.11n
Transmission Rate = Best
Channel Width = Auto 20/40

I've tried setting the Mode to just N, but I can not get a connection at all! This is frustrating!
I can connect with 802.11a fine, but this sucks!

Anyone know what I can do? I have the wireless card set on 802.11b, 802.11g, and 802.11a and I have even tried setting it to just a or a/g but still the same thing.

Any suggestions would be great! Also, can I run Wireless N and Wireless A at the same time? That would be beneficial.

Thanks for all the help!

Any encryption?

Here's what I recommend...

-Channel - highest possible on the 5 GHz band.
-WPA2 encryption with AES cipher

-Update drivers to the latest.

-Reserve the IP of the laptop

Have you tried running on 2.4GHz at all?  If not, try it and see if it can connect.

If you do that, try these settings.
-Manual channel 11
-Channel width auto
-Best rate
-Mixed B,G,N or whatever you fancy
-No encryption to start - IF it works, use WPA2, etc.

Okay, well what I ended up trying was installing the Intel Wireless Software and seeing if it had some settings I could adjust instead of Windows Wireless.
I chose the 5.2 band and suddenly I'm connecting with N speeds downstairs with speeds ranging from 240Mbps-130Mbps.

so, I don't know what I did for sure, but I will post my configurations for people to look at, considering most people with my config are getting only 130Mbps.

Any idea on which firmware I should use?

Nothing wrong with installing the Pro Set software.  It actually enables the software switch and the hardware one to turn the wireless on and off.

Always use the latest. ;)

It's good that you are connecting now at least.

Firmware is based on your own preference.  I like using the latest, but you have to keep in mind...If it ain't broke, don't fix it.  I use 1.15, and have had problems with other ones since.  1.15 seems to be "okay" for now, but there's still some issues I have with it. Keep in mind, if you DO upgrade past 1.02, you cannot revert back.
