I have a simple question but I can't seem to find the answer to it on the forums, and before I take
action I want to make sure I'm doing this correctly.
I have a Dlink 321 with 2 separate volumes (VOL 1 & VOL 2). Vol 1 is a 1.5 To and Vol 2 is a 650Go drive.
My original plan was to use my 1.5 To drive as main storage (photos, MP3s and misc) and use my second
smaller drive to swap with another (to be bought) 650Go as an off-site back-up of important files,
and every 3 months just rotate these 2 drives around as backup drives.
My questions are:
1- Can the 650Go drive that I pull out be installed in an HD external enclosure and be readable without
loss of data? That's always been my concern in the event of a fire/theft
1a- Once I install my 650Go drive in an external enclosure and read it on another PC, can I even reinstall it
in the NAS again without a problem?
2- Will installing an new drive in the NAS compromise the 1.5To HD already in it? Will it just ask to format the new
drive only? I remember when setting up the NAS in the first place that it wanted to format both drives, and I couldn't
install an already used HD with data on it without formating it first.
3- Am I making any sense?
Thank you for your answers.
