Shutdown Problem with Dell XPS420

I just bought an Dell XPS 420.  I installed the driver for the DWA-552 and the computer won't shut down.  When I try to shut it down, it restarts immediately.  I spent over 2 hours on the phone with the Dell tech rep and we established that this is the problem.  When I uninstall the driver, the system shuts down.  However, when I reinstall the driver, I have the same shutdown-restart problem.

Has anyone else had this problem?  if so, what do you recommend to fix?

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium, and have nothing else installed except for my logitech 3200 wireless keyboard and speakers.

I first tried the oriiginal driver that came with the disk.  Same problem as with the most recent version.

By the way, I have this D-Link card working properly on another Windows Vista computer and Windows XPS, without any shutdown problems.

I also tried a DWA 160 USB card on the Dell XPS 420 I am having problems with and there are no shutdown problems with this card.  Only with the PCI DWA-552.

Have you checked for driver updates for your motherboard?

32 bit.

There must be some conflict between the D-Link (atheros) drivers and the XPS 420, as I am having no problems with the DWA -160 USB (Ralink) drivers.

Looks that way. Ru-Fi-Oh will attempt to refine and locate the issue.
Can you PM him all the specs for that machne inc motherboard model?

Ahaa... I CAN HELP.  :)
I've had an XPS 420 since December of last year and had a similar problem. 2 or 3 seconds after my PC had shut down it would automatically turn on on its own. At that time my solution was to manually enable the wireless card after start-up and manually disable the wirless network card before shut down (did this through the device manager). Never had my PC start up on its own again! However I got tired of enabling/disabling the card so I did some more digging and found another solution that worked 100% for me, which is...

In your BIOS try disabling an option called ""wake up on LAN." That simple!!!
That should do the trick... Never had a problem again, not once. Hope this helps.
