You could technically use WDS on the 4300. I know it's in 1.8 FW or later. After that, have the 655 connect to that, and it should be okay.
I don't know too much about Powerline Ethernet Adapters, however if I recall correctly they require the sockets be on the same circuit. Otherwise, it won't work.
In theory, you could skip WDS, and get the Powerline Adapters, and then attach a router on the ends of each.
Here's what it would look like: Modem -> 4300 -> Adapter -> Adapter -> DIR-655
Now, if you do it this way the drawback is that you cannot have the same wireless SSID. (Hence why you should use WDS). If you do it this way, you would need to disable DHCP on the DIR-655, and that way you'd have some ethernet ports available to you.
