I use the dlink router with 12mbits internet connection. Connection with LAN wire, i get the whole 12 mbits. Via Wlan, even while standing next to the router, i only get 5-6 mbits.

I read this can be cos i send in mixed mode b/g. Is that true? How can I set to g only? I only can select "n only", "b/g mixed" and "b/g/n mixed". But I think all my devices use g.

Or can it be some other reason?

That's a misconception. Having mixed mode doesn't reduce your speed to the lowest standard. B devices will connect at b speeds, g devices will connect at g speeds, n at n speeds. N speeds will only work if WPA2 is configured as security.

Are you located in a crowded wireless neighborhood, meaning do you see a lot of other wireless networks when you search from your device?

If yes, try changing the wireless channel. Try different ones, reconnect your device and see if you get any improvement.

no there is only 2 other wlans, sometimes 3
i checked, they are all at least 2 channels away from my channel

is it possible that any other router settings reduce my speed?

I recommend setting the WiFi for the highest mode that your devices support. Most devices now days use G and N. B is for older devices. If you don't have any devices that use the older modes, then they are not needed on the router. Try setting single mode G and see how it goes.
