DIR-655 + DNS-323 = FTP Fails and crashes DIR-655
« on: January 28, 2011, 08:50:14 AM »

Hi all,
This is something and it's starting to hit the limits of my patience.

DIR-655 HW: A4 v.1.35NA
DNS-323 v.1.09 (latest)

I have setup DNS-323 FTP using the default port (21) as instructed in the manual.*Advanced/User: username/password
*Advanced/Quotas: username 100mb - Quota status: started
*Advance/Network access: specified path: Volume_1/Share - Oplocks: yes, Map Archive: Yes - R/W
*Advance/FTP Server Settings: Max.User:3, Idle time:2, Port:21, Passive Mode: Use defaul (55536-55663) Flow control: unlimited
*Advance/FTP Access list: Path:Volume/Share, User:username, R/W
*Advance/FTP Server Status: Started, Port 21, Max User 3, Flow Unlimited, Idle 2, ssl/tls yes, passive mode 55536-55663

I don't have DDNS setup yet, since I wanted to test it first.

DIR-655 is configured as indicated in the manual
*Advanced/Virtual Server: Name: DNS-323-FTP, IP Address: 192.168.1.4, Port: Public:21 Protocol:TCP, scheduled: always, Private: 21, trafficetype 6, inbound Filter: allow all.
*Advanced/Firewall Settings: Enable SPI is checked, UDP endpoint: address Restricted, TCP Endpoint : address REstricted.

I have tested locally by opening explorer and typing: ftp://192.168.1.4 and it works fine, it promtps me for username and password.

When I try from an outside source, using explorer or EI, I do get the prompts for username and password after typing the information, IE or Explorer just hang and eventually I get an error message. Everything on my network just drops and reconnected.

DIR-655 logs only show:
Jan 28 - 14:40:03 WAN Interface cable has been disconnected
Jan 28 - 14:40:03 WAN Interface cable has been connected
Jan 28 - 14:40:03 Bringing up WAN using DHCP
Jan 28 - 14:40:09 Obtained IP address using DHCP. IP address is 192.168.0.10
Jan 28 - 14:40:09 Estimating speed of WAN Interface
Jan 28 - 14:40:09 WAN interface speed measured aborted as they did not converge

The logs do not show a port 21 trigger or any message related about traffic going to 192.168.1.4:21 which is my DNS-323 FTP server.

There are no other configuration on DIR-655, I reset everythign to start from scratch.

Please advise, and thanks again. I wrote this long email to make sure all information was provided.

Hi cbr929pilot,

You can see what I have in my signature.

I have not gone outside of the IP Address range for the DNS-323. You did.

That's the problem.

The range for the D-Link Router is:
DHCP IP Address Range: 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.199

The IP Address that you assigned for the DNS-323 is 192.168.1.4

You need to give it as IP Address between 100 and 199.

It looks like: 192.168.0.130 not 192.168.1.4

And the IP Address of the Router should be 192.168.0.1 and not 192.168.0.10

When you go with the defaults IP Address - wise, it works better.
