OK before I start I would like to say I have read everything I can find on Static / echo. 

I have the most recent firmware for the Base unit, Line module and Phones.

My issues is with call quality on our office end, the clients we talk to love our voice quality.  The issue is when both parties talk at the same time our end either cuts out or gets static.  In one of the post it suggests adjusting the volume settings on the line module box, but it gives no suggestions or explaination on what each setting will do (IE: do we raise or lower the volume, etc.)  I have even set both the Line module and the Phones to use the G.711u-law codec as suggested.

What I am looking for is more detailed information on what the settings do for the entire system (both phones and line module)  The manual give basic descriptions but I want/need more detail.  Is there a book or something we can purchase to get this information.

I am in the exact same situation and would love information on the best settings for the phones as well as the voice gateway.  There are no instructions to be found anywhere concerning the settings and the codecs to use so I've been simply testing out each one to see which one sounds the best.  I did find that setting the PSTN to VoIP (TX) Volume Adjustment to 12 for my line seemed to help the most for issues with us hearing external callers but cannot come up with a definite conclusion for Codec's or each of the sizes.  Please help, we need the quality to be fixed or they will have to go back as it is difficult to understand callers.

We do have 2 analog lines connected to the voice gateway.

Let me first say this is a great phone system.  However, I am having the same issues as described here.  The sound quality is fine except when both parties speak at the same time.  The Response point users tell me that they hear static, or it just cuts out.  The calling party does not notice much except an occasional echo.

I have upgraded to the latest firmware on everything, verified using the g711ulaw codec and we are still having this static problem.

I am going to try the posting listed here to see how it helps.  Won't be much fun as we have 4 lines, so will take a while to test.  http://www.support.dlink.com/faq/view.asp?prod_id=2993

Overall my users love the phone system.  If we could get rid of this small static problem, then it would be nearly perfect.

Hi Amdaxiom, I tried using your suggestion of setting the TX volume to 12.  It made the problem worse for us, so I set our TX to 0(zero) and it has cleared up a bit.  There isnt so much static as a pause on our end when both parties are talking at the same time.

Hi PCTechie, I tried the suggested setting for TX of 6 as my first setting and it had static.  I to love this system and this is my only issue with it.  All my users also love it, if we could just get this issue fixed that would make things wonderful.

So right now both my settings for TX and RX are set to 0 (zero) and as stated above we now get a pause when both parties at talking insted of static interference.  Dlink please help us to better understand what the settings represent in the positive and negative.  There are simply to many options to test.

UPDATE...

I took the time to follow the white paper I posted earlier in this thread.  We went through all 4 lines and adjusted the volume levels on the gateway until the static and echo disappeared.  It took some time, but had to be done.  Since the changes, our lines are all clear except one still has some occasional echo or static.

Again, our problem only occurred when both calling parties tried to talk at the same time.  If one spoke and the other did not, then the call was always clear.  Now that we have made the adjustments to the lines, I have cleared it up by 90% (so far anyway).  I will continue to monitor and post if anything changes.

Also, during our test, I found that 2 of our 4 lines were noticeably lower in volume (to the outside caller side) than the others.  I adjusted those so that the outside callers could hear us more easily.  Here is what my current settings are:

PSTN to VOIP   LINE1    LINE2    LINE3    LINE4
                        2          2          1         2
VOIP to PSTN      0          0          1         1

Each line was different a little.  Line 3 is the one that is just a little flaky yet, but I will keep an eye on it.
