Problem with iTunes sharing
« on: December 14, 2008, 10:39:59 AM »

Has anyone else had problems getting iTunes sharing to work on a LAN with DIR-655 router?  I have an iMac trying to stream iTunes to a Thinkpad laptop.  Both are set to share and discover music libraries.  Both are connected through ethernet and on the same 192.168.0.X subnet, and both have firewalls disabled.  Yet neither one displayes Shared music from the other.  In researching the issue, I read that iTunes sharing using mDNS over multicast, and that some people had to tweak router settings to enable this.  In my DIR-655 Advanced Network tab, both Enable UPnP and Enable Multicast are checked.  I have Hardware A1 with firmware version 1.02 (never upgraded from the original since I didn't have any issues until now).  If anyone can help me troubleshoot this I'd really appreciate it.

Just give 1.11 or 1.21 a try since it will be hard to find somebody still using THE 1.01 VERSION.

Problem solved.  There was nothing wrong with the router.  My VPN software had its built-in firewall turned on and blocking the bonjour port.  After disabling that, sharing worked fine.
