DNS 323 to DSM 520 No Content Available
« on: December 22, 2008, 11:44:38 AM »

Hello,
I recently started getting a message on my dsm 520 media player that there is No Content Available via the DNS 323 upnp media server.  Not sure what could have started it.  The dns 323 shows up as an available server but when I navigate to the folder (or media type) where media are stored the message above displays.  I am on the latest versions of both devices.  If I select windows media player running on my laptop the 520 displays media with no problem.  I was doing this successfully on a wireless network with no issues for over a year before I started getting this message.  I tried it wired to my router and still got the same message.  I can view the media files through windows explorer and they are clearly there on the dns 323.  I have tried refreshing but still no luck.  Any help is appreciated.

Hi jmeade,

If I interpret your post correctly, the problem seems to occur on the DSM-520.  Playing the audio from your laptop wired or wireless is fine.

If so, it may be possible that something internal to the DSM-520 as become corrupt such as a database, config profile, etc.  It would be helpful if you could think back to when the problem started happening to determine if you possibly added extra media files that are perhaps causing a problem.  Additionally, have you added/changed anything on your home that maybe causing some form of issue - wireless a/v receiver, new wifi-router, etc.

Cheers,

Thanks for the response. Nothing changed that I initiated. Can't speak to OS patches, etc.  On the DSM 520 I can play/view media files that are wirelessly streamed from my laptop using Windows media player.  On the DSM 520 I cannot play/view media files wirelessly streamed from the upnp media player built into the dlink DNS 323 storage server.  The DNS 323 appears as an available media server on the DSM 520 and even shows the share where my media is stored but when I try to select from a folder, I get the 'No Content Available' folder.  Does that ring any bells?

I read in other posts where this message appeared when Windows media player 11 indexes were corrupted and had to be rebuilt so the DSM 520 recognized the media files.  Has anyone heard of this happening on the DNS 323.
Appreciate any advice!

In the UPnP AV media server if you have the root selected try a folder that contains only your audio and video media content.
