no subtitles [solved]
« on: November 18, 2008, 06:19:21 AM »

I just got the DSM-750 on Friday and I've played with it a lot, but so far I was unable to use subtitles.
I tried the Media Center mode and the MediaLounge mode, I tried the srt files saved as ANSI and as UTF-8.
The srt files had the same name as the avi files and were in the same folder.
I even tried Tversity.
I am using the latest firmware.

Nothing so far. I got an email from D-Link, stating that:

"There have been reports that users are unable to get subtitles to work correctly with the DSM-750. It is currently being looked at by product management and a future update firmware should be released in the future to resolve this issue."

So I'm waiting for the FW update. Until then, I got subtitles using TVersity.

Are you watching you videos via USB direct on the DSM-750? If not what media server are you using? Any how we did just have a firmware update that should resolve many of your subtitle issues and add some nice support for subtitles. Please update you unit to 1.02 and see how it works out.

Release Notes:

1.  Added Flickr online photo service in Online Services.
2.  Added support for Matroska H.264 video files.
3.  Added support for FLAC audio files.
4.  Enhanced the support for WMV HD files.
5.  Remove the Yahoo Music icon from online services.
6.  Added support for playback of videos using the MediaMall PlayOn service.
7.  Control of SRT subtitles improved in MediaLounge mode. (User can control subtitles on/off,  position onscreen, delay or advance subtitles for better sync, font color and font size.)
8.  Support of SRT, SMI,  SSA, ASS, Subviewer1 & Subviewer2 subtitles when played from a USB drive.

9.  Support for WPL playlists on USB drives.

No, I was trying videos stored on my Vista PC.
Finally, with the new firmware, I got the subs working. They work from a USB key or by using the D-Link Media Server. Which, of course, is only mentioned in the version 1.02 of the manual.
I think the D-Link Media Server, as well as the new firmware should be added to the downloads page for DSM-750, since they're required.

Yes I now have subtitle showed up when using Dlink media server and with USB with new firmware. Still no subtitle when using WMP though.
Good work D-LINK! Keep it up.
