Thinking about rolling back to 1.05 - BT thoughts
« on: January 18, 2009, 10:50:35 AM »

The BT client on the DNS-323 is the killer app for me in addition to the iTunes server.  I upgraded to the 1.06 firmware and the new BT client but I have not noticed any great improvements for my particular working style and in fact a few of the 'fixes' I was enjoying as 'features' are not available anymore.  I just want to make sure I'm not missing some greater potential before I roll my 323 back.  I am bumping up to a couple of non-raid 1TB drives and I'll do the rollback and drive upgrade at the same time.

- I really miss the 1.05 'fault' of having http://ip address/web/bt/fe01.html be able to show all my torrents running on a nice big page without logging in or having to re-login after a timeout period {I don't need the high security at this time}.  Is this view available elsewhere and I'm missing it?

- The 1.06 firmware seems to mimic the 1.05 after a certain time (or number of torrents you have running) freezes you out of being able to open the download section of the 323.  I have to restart the 323 and then all the torrents start up again.  Once again maybe I'm missing the purpose of this feature and when I could get directly to the download page it negated this issue entirely.

- It seemed as if 1.06 and the new BT client had allowed alternate ports in Settings to stay in place after a power cycle but I still had to stop the individual torrent and restart it to have the port forwarding on my router work.

-  And the updated BT binary is there really anything different?  It looks the same?  Am I missing it completely?  I see the 1.06 showing as new firmware where can I look at the BT version to make sure it installed correctly from the Easy Search Utility 4.4.0.0

Thanks for any insight and I always appreciate the value add o***ood user forum.

oh hey - I'll follow up on my own post for posterity

I kept FW1.06 for a few more weeks then got a couple of the WD 1TB green drives rolled back to 1.05 and set it all up again.

Working just like I wanted for my simple needs!

The full sized BT download manager page opens without a login and stays up and doesn't freeze me out or need a reboot after a certain time.  I set up the 2nd drive to incrementally backup my iTunes library from the first drive {working perfect}.

If I could just breed this with my Tivo . . .

Hello,

I have rolled back to 1.05 from 1.06 due to issues of timing out and the web crashes, unable to delete files in the BT/Complete folder. So far I'm happy running 1.05 with the different links for monitoring torrent and deleting files via GUI. PS3 streaming (wired) is very good with the refresh setting you can set manual on the 1.05. So far so good again.
