I'm attempting to setup a couple of directories under the standard Volume_1 directory and set individual permissions for each, but with no luck. It seems that any permissions I set are overwritten by inheritance from the Volume_1 directory's perms.
I've got two different users setup, one for myself and one for everyone else. I've made two folders, "shared" and "private". I've setup private to be R/W by my own user, and no accompanying rule for the second user (apparently creating no rule = no permissions according to what I could glean from other posts here?), and I've setup R/W for all users on the "shared" dir.
Unfortunately, if I leave the default rule of R/W access for all users on the Volume_1 dir (can't even rename the damn thing btw?) it apparently inherits this rule on the "private" dir and the secondary user has full access to it. If I remove the rule altogether, then you cannot map any folder whatsoever on either user. If I make Volume_1 only accessible to myself, the secondary user has no access to anything.
Does the beta 1.06 firmware solve this issue or is there a work-around solution? I'd rather not create a second volume with different permissions since I'd rather share all available disk space... if that's the only solution then, well, that's pretty silly on D-Link's part.
My platform is Vista-32, firmware on my DNS-323 is 1.05.
