Happy New Year to all. I've been trying to configure my DNS 323 (F/W 1.06) to work as an FTP server with no joy. Tried everythin in the forum but still doesn't work. If anyone can give me a better insight that can work, I will be very happy and thankful at the same time. The configurations are as follows:
DNS 323
- F/W 1.06, upgraded to it since 1.05 didn't work either
- configured for static IP (192.168.0.50)
- ftp server configured to port=20, flow control=unlimited, idle time=2, client language=western european
- tried anonymous login and user/password login (still didn't work)
- works when i use ftp://192.168.0.50:20 but not from outside my lan
DIR 615
- F/W 1.10, H/W A1
- virtual server configured as name=dlink nas, IP address=192.168.0.50, public/private port=20, traffic type=TCP, schedule=always
- didn't configure port forwarding since it's the same thing

I tried this address from IE7, ftp://7x.xxx.xxx.xx:20 (7x.xxx.xxx.xx is my WAN IP address from COMCAST) with no luck. I also tried everything from upgrade/downgrade f/w to opening firewall on my router to enable DMZ but still doens't work. I also called Dlink tech support and tried their remedy with no luck so hopefully someone in this forum can help.

Did you try using a port like 2100 instead just to make sure that it isn't a port conflict.
Also, Try using Port Forward instead to see if the problem lies in the Virtual Server code and/or setup.

hmmm.  As it turns out, I'm trying to do something similar myself as we speak and running into similar issues.

Have a read of this post as well if you haven't seen it already... http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=3476.0

I'll let you know if I manage to have success.

Two questions ...

1) Have you tried it on the local LAN?
2) Have you tried it at the default port 21?

One more question ...

3) Is the client behind a NAT router?

RAID1 is for disk redundancy - NOT data backup - don't confuse the two.

You may need to take a step-by-step approach.  For example,

- Select a specific folder on the DNS; ex: MYFTPTEST
- Create a user with R/W permissions; ex: MYTESTUSR
- Set 'Max User' count to 10
- Set 'Idle Time' to 2
- Set TCP Port to 21
- Set 'Flow Control' to 'Unlimited'
- Stop/Start the FTP service

Test access via LAN.  If you run into problems connecting, it could be security software related on the PC; ex: AntiVirus, Firewall, etc.

Test access via WAN.  Configure your ROUTER to forward Port 21 to the DNS.  Some routers are two-step: 1) Open Port, 2) Set Virtual Server.

Few things to keep in mind:

- Have an external person attempt to connect; ensures it is actually is working
- FTP clients may need to be set for ACTIV (not PASSV) connections
- Try configuring the router to forward Port 20 to the DNS
- The router may require additional configuration changes; ex: SPI, Special Port Services, etc.

it turns out that the router (DIR615) was not properly forwarding the port, thus i'm getting a webpage cannot be opened error. I plugged in an old wired router (DI604) and worked like a charm. Filezilla, coreftp and filerush all connected to it with no problems. Thanks again for all the replies. One last note, I'm sending this crappy router back to dlink for a replacement.
