Directing an incoming call based on number dialed
« on: December 28, 2008, 10:02:36 PM »

I know what most will say about this topic, but I think it could be and should be able to be done.

I am not asking for DID, or routing based on the caller ID.  What I have is this:

I have the 4 port gateway with 4 POTS lines connected.  The main number is line 1, and the other 3 lines are in a hunt group to the main number.  However, each line has it's own outside number, and I can dial that number and be connected to that specific line.

Line 1 219-555-1234 (Main Number)
Line 2 219-555-1235 (Hunts to main)
Line 3 219-555-1236 (Hunts to main)
Line 4 219-555-1237 (Hunts to main)

What I want is to have anyone who calls the number for line 4 to route to a different phone.  The gateway knows which line has the incoming call, and response point even shows which port is active, so I do not understand why we could not route calls based on the line that answered.  Obviously I would remove line 4 from the hunt group to keep it from inadvertently mis-routing a call.

Enlighten me...thanks for your time.

Directing an incoming call to a specific phone is only possible with the DID feature with caller ID enabled. That feature is already supported on VoIP services and will be supported on Analog lines in the future updates.

Thanks for your reply, but I am not sure you still understand my request.  I am not really asking for DID or anything like it.

I have 4 analog lines on the gateway.  The gateway knows which line is 1, which is 2, which is 3, and 4.  Each Analog line has it's own number.  What I want to do is direct any call that comes in on line 4 to bypass the receptionist and go to another user/phone.  I want ANY call coming in on that line to do this, not just specific calls, or caller id filtered calls.  DID is not really what I am looking for in this case.  What we want is a second avenue that special callers can use to bypass the receptionist and go to another person/phone.  At this point anyone who calls us has to go through the receptionist, and we don't want that for all of our callers.  It is not feasible to add tons of caller ID numbers to the routing list, many callers have several originating numbers, like cells, homes, offices, etc.

Thanks again for your time.
