Update (fixed) xbox 360
« on: January 07, 2009, 08:56:18 AM »

I've fixed my 360 problem so I thought I would give an update.

1. I installed a new hard drive (now have 2 1TB samsungs) I put the movie directory on there, copied over 2 movies, and the xbox was able to see and read them. So I dumped the rest of them on there (40ish) and bang got a message no videos found. I then made a second directory on the same disk, moved (faster) 2 movies at a time and kept refreshing and checking the xbox, worked all the way till i got to my harold and kumar 2 movie, error message came back, deleted refreshed and it was back. So it turns out that it was the one movie, I tried to rename it, still didnt work. So Im guessing it was an invaild format for the 360. I would have assumed the 360 would have seen all the movies, but crapped out when playing a bad movie, but I guess not. Just wanted to let everyone know in case they have these problems.

Now I just need to figure out how to fix the bit torrents. Since adding the second drive its all screwed up and I cannot delete the nas_prog directory ( i have one on each drive) any ideas?

Actually, no, this means that the UPnP AV service on the DNS-323 choked on the Harold and Kumar movie, not the Xbox 360.  The Xbox 360 will let you see all media file types, regardless of whether or not it can play them.  If it cannot play them, it'll pop up with an error code on the Xbox dashboard telling you this.

For example, all of my unplayable .avi and .mkv files show up in Xbox 360, despite the fact it cannot play them.

So the question remains:  why did the DNS-323 choke on that file and what can be done to prevent it in the future?

Just be lucky the DNS-323 didn't format your drives when it hung up on that movie (I'm being sarcastic here btw). I'm frustrated with this device, the file NAS works fine, but it seems like everything else is just hacked together and rushed out the door.

I have several D-Link routers, switches and this nas. I've had bugs and glitches with all of them, the only one that is pretty stable is my DGL-4300 and that's running firmware 1.08 which was pulled for a while.

Oh well I'm staying away from D-Link.
