Router Issue
« on: January 29, 2011, 12:43:12 PM »

Greetings fellow D-link enthusiasts.

I've run into a problem that simply appeared out of nowhere after a month of flawless performance.

My Internet is working as it should when I'm connected directly into the modem. However, when I try using my DIR-855 Router I can't access it unless I'm using Wireless.

I can browse through the router as wireless but I can't get the router to establish a connection. (When I click Renew it just says establishing -please wait -- forever)

When I reboot the router it says that it's Online on the display on the router. Even when I'm inside it says that I'm connected. The router has an IP adress and everything else appear as it should under Status. (I assume it's an old cache of information or something, as the Internet isn't working anyway.)

I've tried

- Rebooting
- Reseting
- Using different computers
- Using different cables

Oh, and again I want to humbly emphasize that this happened out of nowhere. Everything was working fine for a month and I haven't changed any settings at all.

If anyone could please point me into the right direction or simply give any advice I'd be most grateful.

Thank you for your time,
Sajuuk

What ISP service do you have? Cable or DSL?

Is the router getting an IP address on the WAN side if you check Status/device info/wan section?

Also is the Primary and 2ndary DNS IP addresses being filled in under Setup/Internet/Manual? If not then these should be copied and pasted in from the WAN section.  I would also setup static IP address reservations for all of your connected devices.

I'm using Cable (100Mbit Fiber)

Yeah, when I reboot the router, everything's filled out under the Status/Device Info/WAN Section. (But Internet is not working)

But when I try to [Release] and [Renew] nothing happens. . (Has always worked before)

Is DNS Relay enabled under Setup/Network Settings?

Can you set a static IP address reservation on the router and make sure your PC network settings are set to automatic. The pc will get the IP addressing from the router.

I managed to fix it by removing all ethernet cables connected to the router. And then Renew:ing the IP adress wirelessly. No idea why this worked, but I read about someone with a similar problem.

I set up a static address reservation like you told me anyway. Will see if this works better. Thanks a lot for your time, most appreciated!
