DIR 655 management only from wireless. Why?
« on: February 14, 2011, 03:01:49 PM »

:-\ I have a DIR 655  hardware A2 Firmware 1.35NA.  It has been working Great.  Yesterday, 2/13/11, I tried to login on a hard wired ethernet connection. I looks like I'm not an administrator and shows minimal info.  If I click on any thing it logs me off.  From a wireless connection it works like it should, but it is hard to do firmware upgrades, system saves, and restores.
I reset the router to factory settings and disconnected it from everything, but it still works the same (not right). I got a restore to work, barely.  Is this a new feather?  Now what do I do?

Is your wired PC set up on the LAN correctly? Using static or auto DHCP settings? I recommend setting static IP address on the router for the PC and then set the PC to auto everything.

The wired PCs are set up with a static IP and auto everything  else.
I reset everything to factory settings and had everything disconnected except one wired pc.  It still acted the same.

You are logging in as Admin and using the password to log in?

What browser are you using? Try a different browser? FF, Opera, Flock?

I'm using Admin with a password and ie browser. I'll try a different browser.
Only strange thing that happened is about the time things quit working, a friend connected with a new notebook and it ask for the pin number of my router and then connected.  I had security set to WPA-WPA2 personel. I now have it set to WPA2 only and the friend has to put in the security code. I don't know if it is related.

Try turning off Protected WiFi Setup. Thats really meant for wireless printers and some peripherals that can connect securly over WiFi. You don't need a PIN to access the router for maintenance and setup.

Also might check to see if WMM partition is enabled, can turn that off along with Short GI under Advanced Wireless.

WPA2 is preferred and Cipher to auto or AES depending on what your remote devices support.

Thanks for all your help. I turned off Protected WiFi Setup, disabled WMM , and turned off Short GI, but it still acts the same.

I can login to router using the hard wired line with "user" username. But, that doesn't allow me to do much.

Let us know if a you see the same issue with a different browser.

Also clear the IE broswer cache, close IE then restart it and try again.
Odd how WiFi connects correctly however the LAN PC doesn't.

It's possible something is bad on the router.

One thing I though of, if you can get another PC to connect to it wired, a known working one. I might do the following:
Factory reset.
Reload FW.
Factory reset 2nd time.
Test.

There could be a setting in IE/Control Panel/Internet thats not setup correctly. Glad Opera is working for you.

I've been using that browser alot lately. I like the features of it. Hope it works well for you. Keep us posted.

I've been trying with 2 separate wired PCs and they both do the same. I just tried clearing the cashe in ie and it still does the same. Using Opera I reset the router to factory specs and ie still did the same.
Opera looks like a good solution.

Thanks,
