DNS-323 UPNP to Archos 605 - ID3 Tag issues
« on: January 13, 2009, 12:35:54 AM »

Hello guys

I activated the upnp feature on my DNS-323 in order to access my music from my Archos 605 through my Wifi connection (http://www.archos.com/products/gen_5/archos_605wifi/index.html?country=global&lang=en).
My problem is that only the Artist and Album tags are recognized by the Archos 605. The Genre, Year and Track number are not recognized by the Archos 605.

Would it be an issue with the DNS-323 or with the Archos 605 ?
Does anyone use an Archos device like I do ?
Have you guys ever heard of a such happening ?

Let me precise that all my tags are ID3v2.3 (ANSI). I did some tests by using ID3v2.1, ID3v2.2 and ID3v2.3(UTF16) but it did not help at all !

Thank you for your help

I use an Archos 5 but haven't tried it with music yet... however, have had no luck streaming ripped DVD VOB files from the DNS-323 to it, which works with other UPnP devices. (I get an error that the media is corrupt, which it's not.) I had hoped 1.06 would fix this, but alas... no go. Maybe these problems are loosely related...?

I haven't tried UPnP with VOB files because playing such files over my wifi (g) network gives me jerky frames anyway. Does your Archos 5 returns the same error message when you play VOB files directly from the Archos File Explorer instead of the Archos UPnP access ?

Would it be possible for you JRBTempe to test your DNS-323 UPnP with your Archos 5 on a few MP3 files ? And then tell me whether you have the same issue than I do ?

Hi Giom,

I copied a track from Amazon MP3 to my DNS-323 and it's streaming via UPnP to my Archos 5... I can see the track properly by Genres, Artists or Albums. It doesn't show the track number of the song, however. Is this what you were looking for?

I am able to successfully stream VOB files through the Archos File Explorer, yes.

Genre, Year and Track number don't work with my Archos 605.
And you're saying that Genre works fine with your Archos 5, whereas Track number does not.
At the same time, all tags are all well recognized if we access the music by using the Archos File Explorer instead of the UPnP access.

So, the UPnP protocol doesn't work well between DNS-323 and Archos devices.
How can we know if the problem comes from the DNS-323 UPnP feature or from our Archos devices ?

Seems to be a DNS-323 issue, since when using my PS3 to stream MP3s from the DNS, it doesn't show ANY id3 tags, at all.

Very annoying.

That's what I suspect too.
Archos devices work great and as far as I know there is NO known issues about streaming to an Archos from WMP or PS3.

So, how can we alert D-Link about this issue ? Is there a way to report it to them ?

Hope so. But I commented in another topic, and got no answer.  :(
